MiCoB was founded in 2018 at IIT Gandhinagar to take advanced engineering research beyond the laboratory and apply it to the persistent execution challenges of construction. Today the company has delivered more than 650 3D concrete printed structures across 13 states, and operates as a construction technology and execution company rather than just a printer supplier.

The MiCoB story

MiCoB was founded in 2018 by Dr. Shashank Shekhar, Dr. Ankita Sinha and Rishabh Mathur at IIT Gandhinagar. The company began with a shared objective: to take advanced engineering research beyond the laboratory and apply it to the persistent execution challenges of construction.

The founding team brought together expertise in civil engineering, 3D concrete printing, mechanical systems, robotics, thermal engineering and automation. Early work focused on understanding the complete 3D concrete printing process, including printable material behaviour, pumping, extrusion, motion control, structural design and construction execution. The team built its own prototypes, tested materials and gradually developed the capability to manufacture full-scale construction components.

From the beginning, MiCoB approached 3D concrete printing as more than a machine-development problem. Reliable construction requires the material, equipment, software, process controls, structural system and site execution to work together. This principle shaped the company's evolution from early research and prototypes into an integrated Digital Construction Manufacturing platform.

From research to real projects

MiCoB moved from controlled trials to field deployment by working on practical construction requirements. Defence applications became an important early proving ground because they demanded rapid execution, structural performance, transportability and deployment in difficult environments. These projects helped the company strengthen its material systems, modular construction approach, quality controls and production workflows.

The same capabilities were subsequently extended to housing, hospitality, infrastructure and specialised construction applications. MiCoB has delivered 3D printed bunkers, defence structures, dwelling units, modular buildings, retaining and boundary systems, hospitality structures and other customised components.

Building an integrated technology platform

Over the years, MiCoB has developed proprietary printable concrete formulations, automated material preparation systems, pumping and extrusion controls, industrial robotic printing workflows and purpose-built manufacturing software. Its production system coordinates batching, mixing, pumping, extrusion and robotic deposition as one continuous process.

MiCoB's software capabilities support manufacturing planning, toolpath generation, print sequencing, deposition control and robot-ready production preparation. The company continues to expand this platform into design automation, quality inspection, reinforcement automation and knowledge-driven manufacturing systems.

Where MiCoB stands today

MiCoB has delivered more than 650 3D concrete printed structures across 13 states, including more than 500 impact- and blast-resistant bunkers for defence applications. Its work has been deployed across conventional civil locations as well as difficult terrain and extreme climatic conditions.

Today, MiCoB operates as a construction technology and execution company. Its role is not limited to supplying a printer. The company works across design, material engineering, manufacturing, quality control, logistics and project delivery to convert construction into a more controlled, repeatable and scalable process.

Our direction

MiCoB's long-term objective is to industrialise construction through Digital Construction Manufacturing. The company is building a platform in which structures and construction components can be digitally designed, manufactured under controlled conditions and assembled efficiently at the project location.

The goal is clear: faster execution, lower material waste, reduced dependence on fragmented site processes, better repeatability and commercially viable construction at scale.

Key milestones

  1. 2018

    Foundation

    MiCoB was incorporated in 2018 by Dr. Shashank Shekhar, Dr. Ankita Sinha and Rishabh Mathur. The founding team began developing a practical 3D concrete printing system based on its research and engineering work at IIT Gandhinagar.

  2. 2019

    Early technology recognition

    MiCoB was selected for incubation support under ASHA-India, an initiative of the Global Housing Technology Challenge-India under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The company also received early-stage recognition through national and international entrepreneurship programmes.

  3. 2020

    Manufacturing platform development begins

    MiCoB began systematic development and field-oriented refinement of its 3D concrete printing platform. The early system used manual modelling, standard motion files and direct material pumping, establishing the baseline for subsequent automation.

  4. 2021

    Digital design and in-house slicing

    CAD-based modelling and an in-house slicing workflow were introduced. This expanded the company's ability to manufacture non-prismatic forms and prepare project-specific print paths internally.

  5. 2022

    Robotic integration and defence validation

    MiCoB integrated industrial robotic systems, enabled parallel printing and advanced its material preparation workflow. Its 3D printed protective structures were tested for defence applications, including ballistic and impact performance.

    On 28 December 2022, the Indian Army inaugurated its first two-storey 3D printed dwelling unit for soldiers at Ahmedabad Cantonment. The 71 sq. m structure, developed by Military Engineering Services in collaboration with MiCoB, was completed in 12 weeks.

    MiCoB was recognised as a winner of the National Startup Awards 2022 and as an iDEX winner for the challenge on ballistic protection portable bunkers with cooling effect.

  6. 2023

    Extrusion-led production and larger structures

    MiCoB deployed its purpose-built extrusion system, strengthened its slicer and production controls and advanced parallel manufacturing with minimal fresh-material wastage.

    The company contributed to a three-storey hybrid 3D printed building for Military Engineering Services, demonstrating the use of 3D printed construction at a larger building scale.

  7. 2024

    Full material automation and defence showcase

    MiCoB implemented fully automated batching and strengthened material consistency across extended production runs. The company also advanced rapid-setting material systems and integrated process control across mixing, pumping, extrusion and robotic deposition.

    MiCoB's 3D printed defence bunkers were showcased at Bharat Shakti in March 2024.

  8. 2025

    Scale, recognition and platform expansion

    MiCoB crossed the delivery of 500 impact- and blast-resistant 3D printed bunkers for the Indian Army.

    The company received the CII Startupreneur Award in the category Excellence in Technology Solution. Co-Founder Dr. Ankita Sinha was included in the CII-CIES Women in Innovation 2025 compendium.

    MiCoB also became a participant in the United Nations Global Compact in December 2025.

  9. 2025–26

    Digital Construction Manufacturing platform

    MiCoB expanded its technology development beyond printing hardware into an integrated platform spanning materials, autonomous process control, robotic manufacturing software, parametric design, internal knowledge systems, visual quality inspection and reinforcement automation.

    Krypton, MiCoB's manufacturing planning and slicing platform, supports print sequencing, path preparation, robot workspace validation and robot-ready output. MiSOP is in active internal use as a role-based knowledge platform. MiCAD, automated reinforcement and AI-assisted inspection capabilities remain under continuing development and validation.

What makes MiCoB different

MiCoB is building an integrated Digital Construction Manufacturing platform. The company's differentiation does not lie in a single printer, robot or material. It lies in the coordination of material science, machinery, automation, software, structural design and project execution as one complete construction system.

A full-stack construction manufacturing system

MiCoB integrates the complete production chain: automated batching, controlled water and additive dosing, intelligent mixing, material transfer, pumping, extrusion and robotic deposition. Each stage is designed to function as part of a coordinated manufacturing workflow rather than as an isolated piece of equipment.

This integration improves material consistency, reduces interruptions, lowers operator dependence and supports longer and more repeatable production runs.

Proprietary printable materials

Printable concrete must perform during manufacturing as well as after curing. It must remain pumpable, extrude consistently, retain its shape immediately after deposition, support subsequent layers and maintain strong interlayer bonding.

MiCoB has developed proprietary printable concrete formulations through in-house research, production trials and field validation. The formulations and process parameters are adjusted for project geometry, environmental conditions, production duration, pumping distance and structural requirements.

Process intelligence and automation

MiCoB's manufacturing controls synchronise material preparation with extrusion and robotic motion. Sensors monitor critical operating conditions and regulate the flow of material through the production system. This reduces the need for continuous manual adjustment and helps maintain a stable material supply at the print head.

The result is not simply robotic movement. It is controlled manufacturing in which the material and the machine respond as one system.

Purpose-built manufacturing software

MiCoB develops its own software for robotic construction manufacturing. Krypton supports print-path generation, manufacturing sequencing, start-point and direction control, workspace validation, multi-panel production planning and robot-ready output.

This reduces dependence on fragmented CAD plugins, external scripting and multiple software handovers. Production preparation can be carried out within a workflow developed specifically for large-scale 3D concrete printing.

Factory-led construction execution

MiCoB uses a manufacturing-led approach in which components can be produced under controlled conditions, inspected, transported and assembled at the project site. This reduces dependence on conventional formwork and fragmented site labour while improving repeatability and production planning.

The platform supports both standardised products and project-specific construction, allowing MiCoB to address repeatable infrastructure requirements as well as customised structural and architectural applications.

Validated through real projects

MiCoB's technology has moved beyond demonstration projects. The company has delivered more than 650 structures, including more than 500 defence bunkers, and has executed projects across 13 states. Its systems have been used for defence structures, dwelling units, multi-storey construction, hospitality projects, modular buildings and infrastructure components.

This execution experience has created practical knowledge across manufacturing, logistics, erection, jointing, quality control and field performance. That accumulated experience is a significant part of MiCoB's technology advantage.

Designed for difficult conditions

MiCoB has developed and deployed solutions for varied environments, including high-altitude regions, extreme temperatures, seismic requirements, wind, snow and remote project locations. Material formulations and production controls are tuned to the operating environment and the intended application.

Continuous technology development

MiCoB continues to expand automation across the construction lifecycle. Current development areas include parametric design automation, AI-assisted quality inspection, automated glass-fibre placement, reinforcement planning and knowledge-driven production support.

These systems are being developed in stages and are deployed only after technical validation. This allows the company to improve automation without overstating the maturity of technologies that remain under development.

Equipment can be purchased. MiCoB's advantage comes from the years of integration behind the equipment: proprietary material formulations, process-control logic, purpose-built software, project-specific engineering and real-world execution knowledge.
